The Morrison Community Hospital Foundation has a vision of joining the community together while promoting healthy living.  One way the MCH Foundation Board would like to accomplish this is by creating a community garden in Morrison and by designing an educational gardening program for young children.

Morrison Community Hospital has announced a new visitor policy to take additional precautions to protect patients from respiratory and flu-like illness. 

In a time of economic downturn the Morrison Community Hospital in Morrison, IL is thriving.

Morrison Community Hospital is collaborating with the University of Iowa, OSF, Rockford Memorial, and Mercy Medical Center to begin offering advanced training to their hospital staff and EMS staff.  The new classes and seminars have already begun and are providing MCH staff with the knowledge necessary to become experts in their departments.  Patients will benefit from the small community hospital environment with highly educated, professional staff.
 

In the month of March, the food pantry served 66 families which consisted of 213 individuals.

The MCH Auxiliary Spring Tea was held May 7th at the Presbyterian Church in Morrison.  The Auxiliary Spring Tea is an annual, fun-filled event where members gather together to socialize, share information, and enjoy refreshments.  The tea is also a way to recruit new members for the auxiliary.

Morrison Community Hospital administration announced today that the hospital will be offering minor surgical services within the hospital, in the near future.

The Morrison Daycare and Morrison Preschool recently took field trips to Morrison Community Hospital.  The students and MCH staff really enjoyed their visits.  The students got to hear about different ways that the hospital helps patients regain their health. 

Morrison Community Hospital announced the winners of the coloring contest for Northside School and the “name the newsletter” contest for Southside School.  The coloring contest was in correlation with National Nutrition Month and sponsored by the MCH Dietary Department.  All coloring contest entries were posted within the hospital for visitors and staff to view.  The winners of the contests were:

Dr. Denice Smith understands the importance of creating a healthy future for the children in the Morrison area.  Dr. Smith is a Morrison native and is presently a physician at the Morrison Community Hospital Family Care Clinic.  In an effort to promote healthy choices, Dr. Smith recently spoke to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at Southside School about tobacco use.  The presentation is called “Tar Wars” and it is a part of a national effort to prevent young children from using tobacco products.

Morrison Community Hospital recently shared the importance of safety preparedness with the 3rd graders at Southside Elementary School.  MCH staff members Jean Reed, CNO, Devin Straight, CNO Assistant, and Butch Nimmick, EMT, spoke to the students about safety.  Along with the presentation, all of the students received safety books and DVDs that discuss a wide variety of safety concerns. 

Morrison Community Hospital will be featured in this years ICAHN annual report.  The Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network report will showcase just a couple of the critical access hospitals in the state of Illinois.

Morrison Community Hospital is recognizing April as National Occupational Therapy Month.  MCH offers occupational, physical, and speech rehabilitation services at the hospital on an inpatient and outpatient basis.  Occupational therapy is defined as the therapeutic use of work, self-care, and play activities to increase independent function, enhance development, and preventing disability; it may include adaptation of task or environment to achieve maximum independence and to enhance quality of life.
