EMS Employees Receive Paramedics Licenses

Morrison Community Hospital is proud to announce that Butch Nimmick and Cindy Bouchard recently passed their state boards and received their licenses as EMT-Paramedics in the state of Illinois.  Paramedics primarily provide care to emergency patients in the out-of-hospital setting.  Their goal is to prevent and reduce mortality and morbidity due to illness and injury. 

Butch has 11 years of EMS experience and Cindy has 16 years of experience in the field as well.  “Cindy and Butch have shown their dedication to the community by going the extra mile to care for and protect our patients.  The knowledge and skills that they acquire at this level of training is remarkable,” said John Perushek, CEO of Morrison Community Hospital.  “We are very proud of their accomplishments and are fortunate to have them on our EMS team.”

The paramedic program consists of four components of instruction: didactic instruction, skills laboratory, clinical education, and field internship.  The course is comprised of approximately 1200 hours in the didactic and skills laboratory portion followed by 300 hours of field internship with an experienced Paramedic preceptor and 325 hours of clinical education with a Registered Nurse or Physician preceptor. During the clinical education portion time is spent in the Emergency Room, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Behavioral Medicine, Intensive Care, and making rounds with Respiratory Therapy.  During the field internship and clinical portion they must have successfully performed various critical skills in the presence of a preceptor and had contact with patients with varied types of problems from chest pain to child birth and patients of varied age ranges. To finally complete the program the candidates must complete a state written exam (boards), written protocol tests, and a practical exam evaluating their skills.
