The Make Teal Real committee was formed with a mission to raise funds and create community awareness about ovarian cancer. Their passion to help others with ovarian cancer started when Jan Snyder, of Morrison, IL was diagnosed with ovarian cancer five years ago. From that day forward, Jan wanted women to become aware of the disease and the silent symptoms. Today, her friends and family are still working diligently to make her dream come true.
The Make Teal Real committee has historically donated funds to research in hopes of finding a cure soon. However, they also want to put some of the proceeds back into the community. So, they have decided to proudly partner with the Morrison Community Hospital Foundation. A $10,000 donation was presented to the MCH Foundation from members of the Make Teal Real committee. The funds will go towards creating more community awareness, the OCRF research fund, and helping those in the community diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
Ovarian cancer is the 5th leading cause of death among women in the United States. A woman’s lifetime risk of ovarian cancer is 1 in 67; it is an insidious disease that often strikes without warning or cause. The symptoms of ovarian cancer are often vague and subtle, making it difficult to diagnose. According to the American Cancer Society, it is estimated that of the 21,880 new cases diagnosed, 13,850 women died from the deadly disease in 2010.
To support the efforts of the Make Teal Real Committee please join them in their upcoming ovarian cancer golf outing on June 25th at Cross Creek Golf Course in Morrison, IL. The golf outing will consist of two tee times, a dove release, bake sale and live and silent auctions. For more information please contact Dixie Vegter at Cross Creek or a Make Teal Real committee member. Click the link at the top of the page for the entry form!
