MCH Staff Teaches Southside Students the Importance of Safety Preparedness

Morrison Community Hospital recently shared the importance of safety preparedness with the 3rd graders at Southside Elementary School.  MCH staff members Jean Reed, CNO, Devin Straight, CNO Assistant, and Butch Nimmick, EMT, spoke to the students about safety.  Along with the presentation, all of the students received safety books and DVDs that discuss a wide variety of safety concerns.

The MCH staff asked the students questions, discussed placards (safety labels/signs), and basic safety awareness.  Also, they showed how families can create a communication plan so that they know where to meet and who to call during an emergency.  “The presentation focused on the importance of being prepared and how to preplan for an emergency.  We encouraged the students to go home and discuss these topics with their parents so that they know how to react in an emergency situation,” said Devin Straight.

The students were very engaged and asked the hospital representatives a lot of great questions.  MCH said it plans to continue to offer the safety presentation to 3rd grade students at Southside because educating children creates awareness and can prevent them from getting seriously injured.  The hospital staff also would like to thank the sponsors who helped with the safety books and Mrs. Garza, Elementary Programs and Services Coordinator.
