In a time of economic downturn the Morrison Community Hospital in Morrison, IL is thriving. While many hospitals are eliminating positions and looking at ways to save money, Morrison Community Hospital is actively hiring, starting a $2 million dollar renovation on its OR(Operating Room) and new Specialty Clinic, and is financially sound. Many people would ask how it’s possible for a small community hospital to achieve such success.
MCH contributes these achievements to the leadership at the hospital, compassionate staff, supportive community, and superior services. “We know that we are very fortunate. However, all of our hard work is beginning to pay off. At MCH we decided to focus on providing high quality care and offer great customer service, all at an affordable cost. Positive word of mouth spreads quickly! We are seeing patients coming from as far as Sterling, Dixon, Rock Falls, and Clinton IA,” said John Perushek, CEO.
The recently renovated MCH Family Care Clinic has contributed a lot to the overall achievement of the hospital. Currently, the clinic is well on pace to beat last years record for the most patient visits in a year. In fact, this year the clinic has recorded numerous days with over 75 patient visits. The clinic has five family care physicians and one physician assistant that treat a large range of diagnoses. “At the clinic we know that patients are counting on us to be convenient, compassionate, and prompt. We offer short wait times, professional care, and are extremely convenient. We are open 361 days a year from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The clinic welcomes walk-ins, Medicaid and Medicare, and accepts most insurance,” said Dr. Duncan Dinkha, Medical Director.
Rehabilitation services at Morrison Community Hospital are another service that has become highly regarded by area residents and referred to by many physicians. The hospital offers physical, occupational, and speech therapy. The Director of Rehabilitation Services, Peter Becerra is a certified orthopedic rehabilitation specialist by the American P.T. Association board of specialties. He is also a credentialed clinical instructor of physical therapy students. He teaches students from St. Ambrose University, Midwestern University and Blackhawk College. Joy Johnson, OTR, (Occupational Therapist) specializes in upper extremity rehabilitation, wheelchair prescription, and rehabilitation of activities of daily living.
The new Specialty Clinic and OR renovations have begun. The Specialty Clinic will be on the 2nd floor of the hospital in the previous Family Care Clinic location. Some will remember this area as the old OB wing. The Specialty Clinic area will include five remodeled patient exam rooms and one procedure room. The new OR will consist of two renovated surgical suites with all new technology. MCH will soon eliminate the patients need to travel in order to see specialists. The surgeries will be done on an outpatient basis, maximizing the convenience for patients.
Other services offered at Morrison Community Hospital include acute care, ER, ambulance services, long term care (Four Season’s Living Center), skilled care, laboratory, radiology and social services. The hospital is located at 303 N. Jackson St. Morrison, IL.
