Morrison Community Hospital will be featured in this years ICAHN annual report. The Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network report will showcase just a couple of the critical access hospitals in the state of Illinois.
The critical access designation was granted to MCH due to its geographical area relevant to other hospitals. The report will include the hospital’s history as well as future endeavors. “The growth that MCH has experienced in the last couple of years has been substantial. So, it will be exciting to spread the word about our striving community hospital,” said Chad Haskell, Director of Communications and Fund Development.
Within the last couple of years, the hospital has remodeled the MCH Family Care Clinic, created a new hospice room, and will soon begin renovating the OR (Operating Room) and new Specialty Clinic. MCH offers a large range of services. Included are emergency, ambulance, surgical, laboratory, pharmacy, x-ray, rehabilitation (physical and occupational therapy), and social services. Not to mention the long term care facility, Four Seasons.
The MCH Family Care Clinic now sees over 18,000 patients annually and continues to prosper. Currently, the clinic is open 361 days a year, twelve hours a day, seven days a week. “Compassionate staff and physicians have contributed greatly to the success of the clinic. Patients know that they can walk into the clinic for any need and they will be treated promptly, with respect. Dr. Smith, Dr. Dinkha, Dr. Haile, Dr. Koo, Dr. McPartlin, and Physician Assistant, Elia Hoekstra, could not show more professionalism in the way that they treat their patients,” said John Perushek, CEO.
Comfort is the best word to describe the newly created hospice room within the Morrison Community Hospital. The hospice room is a 360 sq. ft. living space that includes a comfortable bed, couch, chair, kitchenette with dining table, appliances, and a flat screen television. If desired, two large windows allow for soothing, natural light to enter the room. The spacious room enables families to spend time with their loved one, in a more homelike setting. Primarily, the hospice room will be used for hospice patients but can also be utilized by patients that have large families or numerous visitors, when available.
MCH anticipates the completion of the new and improved OR and Specialty Clinic in late spring of 2009. The hospital will then begin offering surgical services to the community and surrounding area. There will be a diverse range of surgical procedures performed by the specialists at MCH. Some of those services will include gastroenterology, gynecology, otolaryngology, and podiatry.
“ICAHN has been an impressive networking resource for our facility. As a rural hospital, we are a vital part of a healthcare network that extends throughout the state. Rural hospitals play key roles in emergency care, diagnosis, and rehabilitative care. The CAH program has given our facility the ability to collaborate together and play an important role in the continuum of care to our community’s needs. Therefore, it is an honor for Morrison Community Hospital to be chosen by ICAHN to be in their annual report,” said Pam Pfister, Associate Administrator.
